What to Expect
My Letter to You
Reading Time: 1-2 Mins
Hello
It's completely normal to question if counselling is right for you.
It can feel like a big step. How does it work? What do I say? Many people have felt the same.
You might have thought, "just push through" or "try harder" or "get a grip" .or "I don't have time".
You might believe , "others have it worse", or you are "selfish", or you "should just get over it ".
You might get to a point where your usual way of coping just don't work anymore.
Speaking with someone with specific therapeutic skills and depth of knowledge, who can compassionately support you to navigate difficulties, may be exactly what is needed.
I used to be sceptical of talking therapy. How could sitting and talking lead to meaningful change?
I wanted someone to give me the answers and tell me what to do.
I also worried by going to counselling, there was something 'wrong' with me, and the counsellor would confirm it.
This has never happened.
When I saw a Person-Centred counsellor, I felt seen and heard. I found deep value in being supported by an empathic listener. I was given autonomy and discovered my own truths, felt my own realisations with the careful and compassionate support of the therapist.
I was able to openly share my concerns, deepest fears at my pace.
My work as a Person Centred Counsellor embodies the principles developed by Carl Rogers. He believed, a therapeutic environment, grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard offers us capacity to accept ourselves fully, leading to growth and healing.
I warmly invite you, to arrange an initial call with me, to chat about about what you need, to get a sense of who I am, and if this feels right for you.
Rogers' also recognised, 'a person is the expert on themselves'
I absolutely trust, you know what is right for you too.
